After obtaining a CPR certification and Lifeguard license, I worked at a local marina and tennis club as the pool lifeguard. Throughout the years I served as a manager of incoming guards and eventually becoming a Pool Operator. I was required to go beyond the janitorial and life-guarding duties by handling guests' issues, organizing summer camps, and promoting the partnership with a local restaurant.
Myself and another student acted as representatives of the prep clothing company, Fraternity Collection. We had duties to distribute items and spread awareness of the brand. We created and customized orders for individuals as well as organizations, mainly Greek. This experience required time management, responsiveness, and descriptive communication skills so that I could connect Virginia Tech students to a large company located thousands of miles away.
I act as an ambassador for Virginia Tech by engaging in conversations with alumni, parents, and friends of the University. Throughout my time at the Calling Center, I learned an immense amount of information about Virginia Tech, its organizational framework, and its annual financial needs. I update demographical information, acquire gifts to certain funds, and most influential, build rapport with each individual prospect which helps develop communication skills. The Student Calling Center creates a team oriented environment so all callers can collectively reach the University's goals.
I reach out to organizations, clubs, teams, businesses, and individuals across the Blacksburg community to connect them to all of Exper-T's services. I design items such as screen printed and embroidered apparel, pens, pins, bags, or hats then act as a liaison between the organization and Exper-T's involving payment, delivery, and all design communication.
As a Marketing Intern for the local radio station in Annapolis, MD, WRNR, I organized and ran several events whether they were concerts or promotional events. I was responsible for distributing concert tickets and other rewards to prize winners. This experience helped me gain a lot of customer service and customer relationship management experience. It was rewarding to be able to direct several clients, listeners, and customers to the correct department or employee at WRNR so that their need was met. I was fortunate enough to get an inside perspective of the music/broadcasting industry and how important Marketing, Social, and Advertising is to keep a radio station thriving.
I had the incredible opportunity to intern with iJET International for the Summer of 2016 in the Marketing department. I assisted the Senior Marketing Management with day-to-day projects that included corporate event planning for several trade shows, creating effective e-mail campaigns and promotions, and updating/revamping staff communications. I was very fortunate to learn marketing from a corporate and professional standpoint and my time at iJET really sparked my interests in where I want to further my career. The company gave me an incredible experience in an industry which I had previously never known, and I was able to see how the collaborative forces at iJET ultimately come together to monitor the world, protect its clients, and, ultimately, save lives.
